Hi Thomas, I thought I'd see if anyone else noticed that -- yet again! -- the poster for this movie is showing 3/4th of a (dead)white female face with dark red lipstick decorated with drops of blood. It is definitely the "in" motif for book, DVD, ...

A group of friends were going to see a movie and asked if I wanted to go. "What movie are you going to see," I asked? "Jennifer's Body" was the response. "Gee what is it about?" "I don't know, but Megan Fox is in it." "Who's Megan Fox?" ... As it ...

What's New?

Well... it took three substitutions (for Tampopo, The Third Man, & Lars and the Real Girl due to permission problems) but I've finalized the list of films we'll be seeing for our September 2009 - June 2010 season. And I must say, even with the substitutions, I really believe the group's outdone itself with some great movies that will definitely be worth seeing and talking about. So without further ado -- here is ze list!

Bookmarks of the list are available at the Help Desks and the Reference Desk. I'll be bringing copies to the October meeting when we kick off our Orson Welles mini-series with The Stranger. The Calendar on our main Lisle Library website has all the films in it with descriptions of each. The listings of our previous years' films has been moved to Previous Posts.

Don't forget: Forum is the area to go to for current discussions -- or to start new ones!

ORSON WELLES - Appearing at Lisle Library -- in These Books!

Orson Welles as director/actor is the subject behind the current & upcoming three movies: The Stranger, Lady from Shanghai, and Touch of Evil. To get to know Welles a little better, you can "visit" with him by clicking on the Lisle Library Catalog link below.

Directed by John Ford

Our library, little but mighty, has a new arrival. Directed by John Ford, by Peter Bogdanovich circa 1971 (restored 2006) is a grand documentary on the career of John Ford. What struck me right off the bat was the voice of the narrator, Orson Wells who is also quoted in during the film. The next thing I noticed was Clint Eastwood commenting on the directorial skills of John Ford. In addition to Clint Eastwood, Mr. Bogdanovich interviews John Wayne, Henry Fonda, Jimmy Stewart, Harry Carey,… Continue

Chandler and Faulkner

I really enjoyed watching and discussing "The Big Sleep" with the Just Between Frames crowd and a visitor from Murder Among Us. What really surprised me was William Faulkner was a screenwriter for the movie. How cool is that. I cannot wait until Thursday's evenings discussion of the Book!

The coming schedule

What a great meeting Saturday. The Pizza was very good too. Orson Wells, Clint Eastwood and Independent Films focusing on The Directors. It could only be better if Woody Allen, Orson Wells and Clint Eastwood made a movie together staring Merryl Streep and Johnny Depp. Okay, I am teasing one of our wonderful members. Come and join us it will be grand and brilliant fun altogether.

Valkyrie and Irish Linen

Many weeks ago Barth recommended Valkyrie and I had my doubts! As with any movie that TOM CRUISE stars in... I had my doubts. Then, I was reading Andrew Greeley's novel Irish Linen that tells the same story as Valkyrie so I decided to rent it from the library. Okay, it was on the free rack. But wow! It was good. Mr. Cruise played it well, no over acting to speak of. So I wonder what others think. It seems to me that Tom Cruise is very good when he is acting with someone else… Continue
